Day off

Today is a school holiday! It's been an amazing day so far already.  I feel refreshed and excited to start the week tomorrow.  I'm not sure if I'm the only one but I feel like "short weeks" are actually harder as a teacher than the regular ones.  We have a 4 day week this week and next week so this little break today is much welcomed by this teacher!

Those Days...

Yesterday was one of those days.  The days that make being a teacher all worth it.

I had a student tell me that history is actually fun this year.  *insert happy teacher dance here...* I had so many good things happen with my kids' knowledge.  Because I have a little time under my belt, I am able to plan things in a way that integrates so many of the concepts. I want the kids to be excited and take ownership in their learning and it's happening!!!

I had an observation by my assistant principal yesterday. He's been in quite a few times but it was the perfect time for him to come it.

Don't you hate when they come in and you're on the floor trying to figure out the plugs for your computer while you're kids are quietly waiting... oh.. that just happens to me? Gotcha...

Anyway, he got to see a seamless transition as well as some great small group action.  I have such smart kids! <3 All of my students have such amazing talents in all different areas.  It's fun for a teacher to find a way to showcase all of those... like a real life puzzle *wink*

Today is Friday... let's see how amazing this one can be!

Pssst....... yes, I still dealt with some annoying caring parents yesterday. Just choosing to focus on the positive because my kids rock

A Day...

Do you ever have a day that was so much that you just don't even want to talk about it?

That's been my last few weeks.  By the time it's over, I have to start it all again.  Thankfully, I have amazing students that make me smile through it all.  Sometimes, I wonder if the parents were as awesome as their kids, what amazing things could happen?

Funny Moments

There are quite a few times that my kids make me laugh uncontrollably.  Many of those times involve me at home, grading papers, way too late and I see some of these tragedies gems.

That’s all for now!

And so it begins...

I have tried my hand at blogging before but I always end up getting bored with what I have to say.  I am starting this blog because I love writing but mostly because I need an outlet to vent. This is my third year teaching but my first year in fourth grade.  I work at a fantastic school that is growing steadily... maybe too much... but it's a great problem to have.

I love my class.  I got to move from third to fourth grade with about half of my students.  I have a class of 17 - half of which are new to the group. We are six weeks into the year and I feel like it could still be the first week of school!

I love the parents of my kids...really, I do... I just don't need to talk with them every day... at the same time... about the same thing... over and over again. I love being available and accommodating but no matter how many times you ask, you child can't retake a test just because they didn't perform as you would have liked. I teach, we discuss, we interact, we explore, we review, we test.  If they missed it, I'm so sorry but I'm not going to let them think it's okay not to work hard when you're supposed to because mommy and daddy can complain and get me a second chance.  That's not real life.

I know they're only ten but when you set them up to have that mindset... it will follow them to their adulthood and jobs just do not work that way.

Some days I come home and tell my husband that I think my life is an SNL skit... so here is where I will be documenting the good, the bad, and the ugly moments of teacher-dome.

That’s all for now!
